Mathieu Marion

Mathieu Marion began his career primarily as a commentator of Wittgenstein and a philosopher of mathematics and of logic, but became interested in issues in history of ideas because of his work as historian of philosophy. He also once wrote the intellectual biography of a minor French philosopher (see selected publications), some of whose actions during WWII are controversial, and that made me acutely aware of some philosophical problems in historiography. As a result, although he does remain a commentator of Wittgenstein and a philosopher of mathematics and of logic, he studied intensely the writings of R. G. Collingwood, to help organizing his thoughts on these issues. He now write also on Collingwood (see, e.g., a critique of Gadamer from his standpoint in selected publications) and his work in history of philosophy (which now extends to Greek philosophy), is deeply impregnated by his ideas. His work in philosophy of logic led him lately to game semanti cs, which also enriched my reading of Collingwood.
